Why do we need a shelter for homeless newborn babies?
A homeless newborn baby in Atlanta has very few options. Before Genesis opened, the mother and the newborn were forced to seek shelters that were not suitable or ideal for newborns. These shelters often posed physical and developmental problems for the newborn with a lack of hygiene, overcrowding, restricted shelter hours and insufficient services. Genesis Shelter enables families to stay together.
What is the main criterion for staying at the shelter?
A homeless family of any size with a newborn baby may be admitted to the shelter. Parents are required to demonstrate a commitment to improving their family’s quality of life.
Does the shelter have specific program goals?
The goals of the shelter are specific: To serve as an emergency residential community for the homeless newborn and its family, and to provide the necessary services that will enable the family to become self-sufficient.
Does the shelter have specific program objectives?
(1) To reduce the immediate crisis of homelessness by providing each family with a private room, meals, and to ensure that immediate physical needs, including clothing and medical attention, are met.
(2) To minimize the immediate crisis of homelessness by providing the family with the necessary programs, life skills training and support services that will make their need for shelter only temporary.
(3) To assist homeless families transition into and maintain permanent dwellings, and
(4) To maximize the opportunity of working with families at risk by providing aftercare and follow-up assessment to assist families in need and to enhance the current program.
