I sat in the hotel room with my four children all I could do was
cry. It was five days before Christmas. I had no money and no way
of getting any, and I had just had another baby. I never dreamed when
I got married I would wind up with no place to live.

Friends,
Like so many other women, Sharon was happy to get married and become
a mother. Unfortunately, happily ever after didn’t last very
long. Sharon is only one of 18 homeless parents of newborn babies
living at Genesis, and her story is more common than you think. Everyday
we see mothers (and fathers) like Sharon struggling to reclaim their
lives and move beyond homelessness.
Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are traditionally a time
to honor the loving, compassionate parents in our lives who nurture
and support us all. Now you have an opportunity to honor them by
helping another. This year we are once again offering you the opportunity
to celebrate your loved ones by making a gift that will enable other
children to experience the love and safety you cherish. By making
a contribution to Genesis in honor (or memory) of a beloved parent,
you will help provide shelter and services to 18 infants, their parents
and their siblings.
Genesis is an emergency transitional shelter for homeless newborn
babies and their families that provides a full array of programming
and
services designed to build self-sufficiency and prepare families
for a healthy, fulfilling and independent life. Your support will
help
approximately 50 people live at Genesis for 90 to 120 days at a time,
and provide three hot meals each day. You will also help these families
participate in programs and services that will offer them the skills
needed to leave Genesis and have a real home.
We encourage you to help Genesis help a new mother or father on
this Mother’s and Father’s Day. Thank you for caring.
